Golden window of opportunity for first home buyers to maximise Government savings

May 12, 2025

First home buyers have a golden window of opportunity to maximise government incentives before 30 June 2025 – and at Highland Walloon we are fast tracking some of the most affordable house and land packages in Southeast Queensland.

The State Government’s $30,000 First Home Owner Grant reverts to only $15,000 from 1 July while new stamp duty concessions starting on 1 May create a possible once-in-a-lifetime window for buyers.

Construction on our new community is now underway, with four-bedroom, two-bathroom homes featuring double garages available from around $640,000. Each home includes an average lot size of approximately 500 square metres – offering more space and better value than most new land releases in the region.

Lennium Development Manager Ian Worthington said May and June 2025 would be golden months for any first home buyer looking to build a new home up to $750,000.

“This is a rare moment for first home buyers, and we are fast-tracking our first land releases so they can take advantage of multiple government incentives at once,” he said.

“The difference an extra $15,000 can make is huge. It could cover key upgrades, landscaping, or even help reduce your loan – but the clock is ticking.

“If you’re serious about getting into a new home, now is the time to secure land, line up a builder, and get your building contract locked in before June 30.”

Introduced to assist first-time buyers to enter the property market, the First Home Owner Grant was doubled on November 20, 2023, in a bid to increase home ownership across the state. It is estimated to have helped around 12,000 first home buyers purchase or build their first home but is scheduled to revert to $15,000 from 1 July 2025.

The change to stamp duty, also known as transfer duty, means a first home buyer purchasing land after May 1, 2025, could also save thousands of dollars.

This costly tax can be a major barrier to home ownership, especially for young buyers trying to enter the market for the first time.

Previously, first home buyers purchasing vacant land would start paying stamp duty on a block worth more than $350,000. Under the changes, a first home buyer purchasing vacant land at $400,000, for example, will now save $5,300 in stamp duty.

Perched in the elevated hilltops of Walloon, in the state’s rapidly expanding western corridor, Highland Walloon combines breathtaking mountain views with unbeatable value.

Our master planned community will provide 900 new homes as well as expertly crafted streetscapes, lush green spaces, and easy access to essential amenities.

Highland Walloon is also ideally positioned with easy access via road and public transport to Brisbane CBD, Ipswich, Springfield, and the Gold Coast. The established Walloon town centre further enhances the appeal, with shopping, healthcare services, and schools all within close proximity.

Mr Worthington said one of the biggest advantages was the range of house and land packages, which simplified the home buying process.

“Buyers can choose a package that suits their budget and lifestyle, with the reassurance that a range of home designs and builders have already been selected for the block – ensuring a stress-free experience from purchase to construction,” he said.

“We understand that buyers want value for money, and that’s exactly what Highland Walloon delivers.”

To be eligible for the First Home Owner Grant, buyers must be at least 18 years of age, an Australian citizen or permanent resident (or you’re applying with someone who is). You and anyone you are partnering with must not have previously owned property in Australia that you lived in, and you must be building or buying a new home.

With the clock ticking on Government savings, potential Highland Walloon buyers are encouraged to register their interest to avoid missing out.
