Boost for first homebuyers as Government fast tracks five per cent deposit scheme

The uncapped scheme is set to make home ownership more achievable than ever, allowing an estimated 70,000 households each year to buy their first home with as little as a five per cent deposit, and no lender’s mortgage insurance.

For properties in Southeast Queensland, including Highland Walloon, the scheme applies to homes valued up to $1 million, giving buyers even more flexibility and choice when entering the market.

That means a first homebuyer purchasing a property worth $750,000 would need a $37,500 deposit instead of the traditional 20 per cent deposit of $150,000 — helping buyers who are saving to enter the market up to eight years sooner.

The Home Guarantee Scheme is available through over 30 participating lenders across Australia, including a wide range of customer-owned and regional banks, as well as major banks.
