And at Highland Walloon, we are proud to offer natural gas access to every block, making it simple and convenient to connect your new home.
You’ll be joining 6.5 million Australian households already enjoying the reliability and convenience of using gas – from precise, controllable cooking and instant hot water to cosy fireplaces and the backyard barbecue.
What’s more, natural gas is playing a key role in helping new homes across Australia meet the nation’s updated seven-star energy rating requirements.
Brought into effect on 1 May 2024, these standards ensure homes are more energy efficient, cost less to heat and cool, and produce fewer greenhouse gas emissions.
The great news for homebuyers is that seven-star ratings can be achieved by combining solar with natural gas. This ideal pairing delivers the performance and efficiency needed for modern living – all while letting you keep the gas cooktops, heaters, hot water systems, and barbecues you love.
Let’s take a look at the many benefits of natural gas
1. Cost-effectiveness
Natural gas is often less expensive than electricity or propane for heating, cooking, and hot water. It can result in lower utility bills for homeowners.
2. Efficient heating
3. Reliable supply
4. A barbecue that never runs out of gas
5. Environmental benefits
6. Reduced energy waste
7. Versatility
8. Instant heat
Unlike electric stoves, which may take time to heat up, natural gas burners offer immediate heat, which is particularly advantageous for cooking. The best chefs cook with natural gas – and with good reason. Large burners give fast and authentic results for stir-frying and deep frying, so you can enjoy delicious flavours much faster.
9. Safety features
10. Support for energy independence
Getting connected is easy
If you’re building at Highland Walloon, connecting to natural gas is straightforward. Just follow these four simple steps.
Step 1: Choose your gas appliances
Let your builder know which gas appliances you’d like to include. This helps determine the right gas meter size and energy allowance for the new 7-star building code.
Step 2: Request gas for your property
Your builder will usually arrange the gas connection. If you’re an owner-builder, contact APA on 1300 001 001 to request a gas service line. We recommend giving 3–6 months’ notice to allow for Council permits and installation.
Step 3: Choose an Energy retailer
As your build nears completion, contact your preferred Energy Retailer to arrange a gas meter and open a billing account. If your builder has already arranged the meter, you’ll just need to transfer the account into your name.
Step 4: Get connected
Your builder will engage a licensed gas fitter to connect your appliances to the meter, so everything is ready for you to enjoy natural gas from day one in your new home. For extra help or advice, contact APA on 1300 001 001.
